Cover For Every Vehicle, Private Or Commercial
Your vehicle may be a major investment, a source of income, or an essential part of everyday life. Motor Insurance from Wysline helps protect you against the financial impact of accidents, theft, fire, third-party claims and other risks — because being legally insured is not the same as being fully protected.
Are You Protected For What Can Happen On Kenyan Roads?
Basic third-party cover keeps you legally compliant, but it does not protect your own vehicle against most real-world risks.
It's The Law
Every vehicle driven on a public road in Kenya must have at least Third-Party Only (TPO) cover. Driving without valid insurance can expose you to legal and financial consequences.
Your Vehicle Is A Valuable Asset
For many individuals and businesses, a vehicle represents a substantial financial investment — protecting it against significant loss can make financial sense.
Kenyan Roads Come With Real Risks
Traffic congestion, potholes, flooding, accidents and vehicle theft can result in costly repairs or the complete loss of a vehicle.
Third-Party Claims Can Be Costly
If you're responsible for an accident that injures another person or damages their property, you may face significant financial and legal obligations.
Cover For Commercial Vehicles & Fleets
Whether you operate a delivery vehicle, truck, PSV, motorcycle, matatu, or a fleet of vehicles, appropriate motor insurance can be arranged for how they're used.
Protection For Regional Travel
Planning to drive across borders? The COMESA Yellow Card provides third-party motor insurance recognition across participating countries.
Private or Commercial?
Private Motor Insurance
For vehicles used primarily for personal, social and domestic purposes. Comprehensive cover is indicatively priced at 3.5%–6% of your vehicle's market value.
Commercial Motor Insurance
For vehicles used for business — pickups, delivery vans, lorries, PSVs, matatus, prime movers, special-purpose vehicles and fleets. Cover is arranged to match how the vehicles are actually used.
Motorcycle Insurance
Insurers often classify motorcycles separately from cars — including boda bodas used for personal transport or income. Cover is arranged around how the motorcycle is actually used, whether private, delivery or ride-hailing.
What TPO, TPFT and Comprehensive actually mean
The right level of cover depends on your vehicle's value, how you use it, and the risks you want to protect against.
Third-Party Only (TPO)
The minimum legal cover
Protects you against covered liability to other people arising from an accident — it does not cover damage to your own vehicle.
Typically covers:
- Death or bodily injury to third parties
- Damage to third-party property or vehicles
- Legal costs for covered third-party claims
Does not typically cover:
- Damage to your own vehicle
- Theft of your vehicle
- Fire damage to your vehicle
From approximately KSh 7,574 per year
Best suited for: Owners of lower-value vehicles prepared to carry the financial risk of damage or loss to their own vehicle.
Third-Party Fire & Theft (TPFT)
Protection against theft and fire
Everything under TPO, plus protection for your own vehicle against two significant risks: theft and fire.
Typically covers:
- Third-party liabilities included under TPO
- Theft of your vehicle
- Fire damage to your vehicle
Does not typically cover:
- Accidental damage to your own vehicle
- Windscreen or glass damage unless included
- Personal accident benefits unless added
Generally priced between TPO and Comprehensive
Best suited for: Owners where comprehensive may not be suitable, but who still want protection against theft and fire.
Comprehensive Motor Insurance
Broad protection for your vehicle
The widest standard level of motor protection — third-party liability plus cover for your own vehicle against a range of insured risks.
Typically covers:
- Third-party liabilities
- Accidental damage, theft and fire
- Windscreen and glass damage
- Personal accident benefits & towing where included
Does not typically cover:
- Political violence & terrorism unless added
- Cross-border incidents without regional cover
- Mechanical or electrical breakdown unless covered
Approximately 3.5%–6% of vehicle market value (private); 3%–4% (commercial)
Best suited for: Vehicles of significant value, daily-use or financed vehicles, and vehicles where theft or major damage would be a real financial burden.
How motor insurance works
Choose The Right Cover
Select the level of protection that matches your vehicle, how you use it, and the risks you're prepared to carry.
Establish The Vehicle Value
For comprehensive insurance, your vehicle's value is considered when determining the sum insured and premium.
Pay Your Premium
Once the premium is paid and the policy issued, you receive documentation confirming your cover and commencement date.
Review At Renewal
Motor insurance is generally renewed annually — review your vehicle's value, usage and optional extensions each time.
Enhance Your Comprehensive Policy
Excess Protector
When you claim under a comprehensive motor policy, you may have to contribute an excess. Excess Protector covers specified excess amounts that would otherwise be payable by you, reducing your out-of-pocket cost following an insured loss.
Indicative premium: Approximately 0.5% of the vehicle's sum insured.
Political Violence & Terrorism (PVT)
Standard comprehensive motor insurance may exclude loss or damage arising from political violence, terrorism and related events. This extension adds specified protection for those risks back into the policy, subject to its terms and exclusions.
Indicative premium: Approximately 0.5% of the vehicle's sum insured.
COMESA Yellow Card
Third-party motor insurance recognition when travelling by road across participating COMESA countries. Serves as evidence of third-party cover at borders, reducing the need to buy separate insurance in each country. Especially useful for cross-border personal and business travel.
Indicative premium: Depends on countries visited and insurer requirements.
Courtesy Car Benefit
An accident can leave you without your vehicle while it undergoes repairs, disrupting your routine or business. Courtesy Car provides a temporary replacement vehicle, subject to policy terms, while your insured vehicle is under approved accident repairs.
Indicative premium: Minimum premium typically KSh 3,000 for 10 days; longer periods available at additional premium.
Enhanced Personal Accident Cover
Additional financial protection following accidental bodily injury from a motor vehicle accident.
- Accidental death
- Permanent total disability
- Permanent partial disability
- Medical expenses arising from an accident
- Other specified accident-related benefits
Indicative premium: Benefit limits and premiums vary by insurer and level of protection chosen.
