Whole Life Cover

Whole Life Insurance from Wysline Insurance provides protection for your entire lifetime. When you pass away, your beneficiaries can receive a lump-sum benefit, together with any applicable accrued bonuses, helping protect your family from financial uncertainty.

Unlike term life insurance, which provides cover for a specified period, Whole Life Insurance is designed to remain in force throughout your lifetime, subject to the policy terms and continued compliance with premium requirements. It can help you create an immediate financial legacy for your dependants while giving you confidence that your family's future is better protected — enhanced with optional critical illness and accident benefits.

Why Choose Whole Life Cover?

Built around what actually matters

Lifetime Protection

Enjoy life insurance cover designed to protect you throughout your lifetime. Unlike temporary cover, the policy does not simply expire after a fixed number of years, provided the policy remains in force and its terms are met.

Build A Financial Legacy

On death, the policy's applicable sum assured and accrued bonuses can be paid to your nominated beneficiaries or your estate where no beneficiary has been nominated — a valuable financial safety net for your loved ones.

Critical Illness Protection

Enhance your protection against major illnesses with optional critical illness cover. Subject to the policy terms, you can receive a benefit following diagnosis of a covered critical illness, easing medical and financial pressure during a difficult period.

Additional Accident Protection

Add accident cover for an additional benefit if you suffer accidental death or total and permanent disability, subject to the applicable policy terms and limits.

Flexible Premium Payment Options

Choose a premium payment period that fits your financial plans — 10, 15 or 20 years, or until age 60 or 65. With selected fixed-term options, once required premiums are fully paid, cover can continue without further payments.

Joint Cover For Couples

Protect yourself and your spouse under one coordinated plan. A joint cover option can provide benefits based on the first death or first covered diagnosis.

Medical Examination Benefits

Depending on the level of cover and applicable underwriting requirements, you may qualify for cover up to KSh 15 million without a medical examination. Higher levels of cover may require a medical assessment.

Tax Relief On Premiums

Eligible policyholders may benefit from 15% tax relief on qualifying premiums, up to KSh 60,000 annually, subject to the applicable provisions of the Income Tax Act and prevailing regulations.

Potential Annual Bonuses

Eligible policies may receive bonuses declared by the insurer, credited after the first full calendar year and accumulating alongside the policy benefit. Bonus declarations are not guaranteed and are subject to the insurer's performance.

The Process

How Whole Life Cover works

01

Choose Your Sum Assured

Decide the cover amount your family would receive — or work backwards from the premium you can comfortably commit to each month.

02

Choose Your Premium Term

Pay for a fixed term of 10, 15 or 20 years, or until age 60 or 65. With fixed-term options, once premiums are fully paid, cover continues without further payments.

03

Add Optional Benefits

Decide whether to include the critical illness benefit and/or the accident benefit for broader protection.

04

Your Policy Commences

Once the insurer receives and accepts your application and the first premium is paid, your cover begins.

05

The Benefit Is Paid

If the policy remains in force and an insured event occurs, the insurer pays the applicable benefit in line with the policy terms.

Plan Structures

Choose The Structure That Fits You

Both plans are available with the joint life option, covering you and your spouse under one policy.

Plan A — Whole Life Cover

On death of the life assured, 100% of the policy sum assured plus accrued bonuses is paid to your nominated beneficiary, or to your estate where no beneficiary has been nominated.

Critical Illness Benefit

Pays an additional sum assured on first diagnosis of a covered illness before age 65, subject to the insurer's limits and typically capped at 50% of the main sum assured.

Accident Benefit

Provides additional protection on accidental death or total and permanent disability before age 65, subject to not exceeding 100% of the main sum assured.

Plan B — Whole Life with Accelerated Critical Illness

On first diagnosis of a covered critical illness, a portion of the sum assured is paid early to the life assured, and future main benefit premiums falling due after the diagnosis date are waived.

If no critical illness claim was made

On death, 100% of the sum assured plus accrued bonuses is paid to your beneficiary.

If a critical illness claim was already paid

On death, the remaining balance of the sum assured plus accrued bonuses is paid.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Whole Life and a term life policy?

A term policy covers you for a fixed number of years and expires at the end of that term. Whole Life is designed to remain in force for your entire lifetime, so a benefit is payable whenever death occurs — provided the policy stays in force and its terms are met.

Can I cover my spouse too?

Yes. A joint life option is available, covering both of you under one coordinated policy. Benefits are paid on a first-death or first-diagnosis basis, depending on the plan structure selected.

Is a medical test always required?

Not always. Depending on the level of cover and the insurer's underwriting requirements, you may qualify for cover up to KSh 15 million without a medical examination. Higher levels of cover generally require a medical assessment.

What happens if I stop being able to pay the premium?

Policies typically include a grace period, and depending on how long the policy has been in force there may be options such as reduced paid-up cover or a surrender value. Talk to us before you miss payments — there are usually more options available than people expect.

When are annual bonuses added?

Bonuses are declared by the insurer and are generally credited after the first full calendar year, accumulating alongside the death benefit. Bonus declarations are not guaranteed and depend on the insurer's performance.

Can the policy be used as loan collateral?

Depending on the insurer and how long the policy has been running, whole life policies can accumulate a surrender value that may be used as security for a policy loan. We can confirm what applies to your specific policy.

  • Abuse of alcohol, inhalation of gas, overdose of drugs, or wilful exposure to radioactivity

  • Active participation in war, terrorism, riots or civil commotion (except for Kenya's disciplined forces)
  • Active participation in mountaineering, horse riding, hunting, motor racing, power-boat racing or fighting (except in self-defence)
  • Participation in aviation other than as a passenger on a scheduled air service
